The Sesia Valley - Sport
Valsesia, "Italy's greenest valley" extends to the feet of Monte Rosa and, in winter fully satisfies the expectations of snow-lovers: from the lifts of Alagna Valsesia, the freeride paradise, that is a part of the Monterosa-ski ski area, to the new chairlifts of Alpe di Mera, which can be reached from Scopello. Even cross-country skiers can choose among several opportunities: the run located near Scopello, the ring-like run of more than ten kilometres between Riva Valdobbia and Alagna and the accredited course for national competitions in Carcoforo. But we can’t forget all the other activities which are strictly connected with the snow and the winter mountain: climbing on the numerous, enchanting waterfalls that flow into the River Sesia and its streams all year around and transform into surprising columns of ice in the winter, to delight the adventurous sports enthusiasts, who can't resist the temptation to try out an extreme and gripping experience or even the snow shoeing which is the most discreet way to experience the emotion of close contact with nature. But this isn’t it: in summertime Valsesia offers enchanting scenery for excursions and hiking in a unique environment, in which the old traditions of the valley dwellers has been handed down in perfect harmony with the nature. Among the more captivating routes: the climb to the Regina Margherita Refuge, the highest in Europe at 4552 m , or take a walk into the Walser hamlets of Valgrande, Val Sermenza and Val Mastallone. |
